• Creative Writing Workshops

In this intimate, guided collective, writers are nurtured within their genre of choice (fiction or non-fiction; novel, memoir, screenplay, short story, poetry, etc.) as they share written works for positive and constructive feedback. Writers discover techniques of revision and editing, along with healthy critique and communication skills while also exploring the writers’ market.

With no more than five participants, the variety of backgrounds, interests, and genre enhance creativity and knowledge for all writers. Works of up to 2,000 words are shared via email prior to class for advanced review allowing the full two-hours for concentrated discussion. This ongoing workshop requires a commitment of one month (3-4 weekly group meetings).

  • Writing Memoir

Writers are introduced to memoir format and led to discover their personal writing journey bringing characters and scenes to life. Also explored are techniques for characterization, dialogue, structure, research, and revision skills.

  • Screenwriting

Combining the power of spoken language and visual imagery into a screenplay are explored, including story design, characterization, dialogue and page format. Participants begin to structure their own screenplay and write scenes.

  • Journaling for Creative and Personal Growth

Writing is an intimate passion for those who journey to discover more about themselves and the world they live in. This workshop explores writing as an awareness skill through daily journaling, creativity exercises, and discussions within a guided, supportive community.

Writers increase personal awareness as they write about their senses, feelings, knowledge, intuition, and dreams. Discovering and nurturing personal creative process, they work through blocks that have hindered heartfelt writing. For many, this workshop has proved essential as a beginning point in their quest to write for an audience. Producing works to share becomes another level of giving and receiving in the expanding circle of creativity.

  • Writers' Forum

Neither a class nor a workshop, the Forum is a gathering which encourages and enhances creative expression and community. Writers share their original writings of up to 500 words or five minutes of reading time. Creative writing genres are encouraged (fiction, non-fiction…prose, poetry, screenplay, feature, etc.). Writing that is academic or technical in nature, as well as personal letters, are not suitable for this Forum. Previously presented works may be presented again after revision. Excerpts of longer stories can include a plot synopsis as part of the reading time.

Readings are followed by brief, facilitated discussions where audience members respectfully offer balanced feedback of what is liked, along with ideas for expansion and improvement.

The Forum includes writers at any experience level and writing enthusiasts. No advance registration; writers who choose to read must sign up at the event.  Open seating; come as often as you like.
